Administrative & Other Activities
I am actively involved in several administrative duties and general actions of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as of the School of Geology and the Geophysical Laboratory.
Aristotle Univ. Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.)
I am a member of the Digital Governance Committee (formerly the e-Governance Committee of AUTH), where I was Chair (2018-2019) and Vice-Chair (2017-2018). I am the oldest active member of this committee, which I helped to create together with other A.U.Th. members (P. Mitkas, Th. Laopoulos, M. Assael, A. Vakali, among others). I was a member of the previous Committee for Networks, Communications and Informatics of A.U.Th. during 2011-2013, as deputy responsible for the Center for Scientific Computing Services (2011-2012) and responsible for the Center for Network Operations (2012-2013). I am a member of the Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP) of A.U.Th. (2023-).
I was Chair (2019-2022) and Vice Chair (2019-2022) of the School of Geology. I participate/participated in several committees of the School of Geology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, such as:
a) Chair of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (2008-2022), which drafted the last revision of the current undergraduate program of the School of Geology. I have represented the School at various events (e.g., at the Aristotle University Liaison Office events “Studying at the Aristotle University” for prospective students).
b) Coordinator of the current Strategic Planning of the Department. (2023-2028)
c) Member of the EPEAEK School project, which managed the project for the creation of electronic courses, databases and the provision of educational equipment and software of the School of Geology. Member of the committee of the project “Equipment to support ESF operations for the reform of undergraduate curricula” (2004) through which the upgrade of the Computer Lab of the School of Geology was implemented.
ITSAK (Institute of Engineering and Earthquake Engineering)
I was responsible of the ITSAK Computer Centre (networks, infrastructure, software, etc.) for the period 1995-1998. I was also involved in the administrative and general infrastructure work of the ITSAK (committees, participation in working groups, etc.).
Other activities
I participate in the information of the State, media and the public, as well as the communities in affected areas from significant earthquake activity in Greece. I have conducted tours at the Seismological Station for various institutions, students, etc., as well as several popularized lectures in schools, scientific organizations and chambers (e.g. GEOTEE), municipalities, Cultural Centres, private companies, etc., through various activities, e.g. the initiative “AUTH on Sunday”.
I am married to Elina Aidona and have two children, Fotini-Iro and Vassilis.
